Theological Basis for Orphan Care

Old Testament scripture, the New Testament doctrine of adoption, and James 1:27 lead us to conclude that Christians are called to, and commanded to, care for the orphan.  Christians should support adoption because God has adopted us, and because He passionately cares about the fatherless.  When followers of Jesus follow God’s command for caring for the orphan, it provides a strong witness to the world and brings praise to our Heavenly Father.
